Bubble Run

Over Memorial Day weekend, I did the Bubble Run 5k! If you are unfamiliar with the Bubble Run, you might want to hurry and sign up for one near you! Because as they advertise, it is "Good Clean Run." We all know running is not fun for everyone, but it is pretty good for you, so why not make it fun! Anytime working out can be enjoyable, outside and a bit different, sign me up!

We got there a bit late so we had to stand in line, but it went quickly! Unfortunately, they ran out of t-shirts. Super sad because we didn't get ours, but they said they would mail them to us, so hopefully they show up soon!

I got my number and I was ready to go!  I think I got a lucky number  :)

Here we are right before the race started nice and clean! These things never start on time because there are thousands of people. Its all good though, it gives plenty of time for photos!

The starting line was full of bubbles! Bubbles up to your belly button and bubbles in the air! Also, if you are in the middle, chances are, bubbles will rain down all over you! There were a lot of kids at this race and I was pretty sure at least one would get lost inside the bubbles.

People and bubbles everywhere!

The bubbles stick to everything! It is pretty awesome! The poor children in strollers were swallowed up! It was hilarious!

As you continue to run you get nice bubble break! You run, walk, jump, and practically swim though the bubbles! They coat you pretty good and after just the first colored set, your shirt starts to get fun!

Just try to keep it our of your eyes! I did that bit of research for you... it doesn't feel too great.

It's raining yellow bubbles!

I think Aaron is having a good time! The blue bubbles were intense!

I swear I'm in there somewhere!

And of course the finish line is more bubbles! And If that isn't enough for you, the "after party" has more bubbles! A DJ and food trucks wait for you after the finish line! A full on bubble party!

Well we did it and had a blast! Our clothes were extra special  by the end! Also, our skin was tinted 4 different colors! If the wicket witch of the west and I both reached for the same cup of coffee, you wouldn't know who's hand was who's!

We had a blast! And you are in luck! The Los Angeles Bubble run was just one of the many bubble runs happening around the country!  There are plenty of opportunities for bubbles where ever you live!

Take a look at all the other locations you can run in bubbles! Check out the website and register soon! The runs sell out quickly! If you don't see anything close to you, have no fear, go here and request a bubble run in your city!

Here are our Before and After comparisons! I think we did alright! The color came out of our clothes very easily. It did take quite a bit of extra scrubbing to get off my skin! My poor feet were tinted green for a day!

Cards Against Humanity

Do you love games? Well, if the answer's yes, then this is the post for you.

My friend Galadriel introduced me to this game, and I have passed the word along to so many of my friends and family members - I might as well be the spokesperson. So should G.

It is definitely one of the top games I have ever played. It's basically like Apples to Apples, but with incredibly raunchy and just plain wrong card choices. It will have you and your friends on the floor. Here is an example of what you may end up with.

The trick is that it only goes on sale a few times of year, through their website or on Amazon. It's only $25! They also have three different expansion packs, at $10 each, which you will definitely want to have if you play often enough. But, you have to catch it when it goes on sale (WHICH IS NOW!) so I recommend purchasing it now! But, if you are reading this post late, you can sign up on their website to receive an email notification when it is on sale next. I usually buy one or two when they go on sale, because they make PERFECT gifts. I have given probably six or seven away, and every single person raves about this game.

Rough & Rugged

As you may remember from the Meet Sarah post, the sweet girl has quite the history. After being near death she has been recovering in an amazing way! One thing I have noticed is her playful personality! She loves bones, balls and any chew toy she can find! (Even though she is blind she seems to know what is a doggy chew toy and what is a shoe or a nice pair of underwear! THANK GOD!)

Well, I discovered pretty quickly that she LOVES fetch. Yep, a blind dog that wants to play fetch. She wasn't to good at it, but as soon as she managed to find that ball she jumped on it and brought it back right away tail wagging asking for more. I felt bad making her struggle so I was  on a mission to find a ball that made some noise. Not a squeaky noise but a jingle noise so as it rolled away she could find it.

I was at C & C Pet Food & Supplies in Burbank picking up food and... I found one! The Rough and Rugged Balls from Four Paws have a lil jingle bell inside! Plus they are "Virtually Indestructible" so hopefully they last a while!

I was so excited, and I knew the dogs would be so I bought two. Harley has been such a great foster sister, but when toys come out she gets quite the pouty face when Sarah has one of her toys. So, two would solve that problem!

Well they loved them!

Harley was ready to play!

So was Sarah!

They have become a favorite and I actually have to hide them when play time is over because Sarah will carry it everywhere! They are pretty durable too! As long as I don't let them just chew on them they stay together well!

Here is Sarah posing with her new favorite toy! She was so happy to have a new toy to play fetch with and even more excited to be able to hear it! She was much quicker and I was able to throw the ball a bit farther so she could have a bit more exercise!

Harley loved her ball too! She isn't as good at fetch. She's go the go get it part down but she likes to just hold on to it for a while before bringing it back!

My favorite thing about these balls... has to be that this happens after they play with them!

Don't forget! Sweet Sarah is still looking for a forever home! Please share with anyone you think may be interested! You can find more information about her from Bullies and Buddies Rescue or check out the Bullies and Buddies facebook page!

Empty the Fridge- Dinner

I was about to head out of town for the weekend so I wanted to use up the fresh veggies. It's never fun to return home to moldy food in the fridge. So, I grabbed what I had left and got creative!

6 mini portabella mushrooms
2 small zucchinis
1 small onion
1 block of firm tofu
2 cups pasta
Pasta sauce
Olive oil
Balsamic vinegar
Salt/pepper
Thyme
Basil

I started by slicing all of the zucchini and onions. I cut the mushrooms into quarters and the tofu into cubes. I then sautéed everything with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. While it was cooking I threw in some salt, pepper, thyme, and basil.

While the veggies and tofu were cooking I tossed some corn pasta into a pot of boiling water.

After all the veggies had cooked I added the pasta and mixed it all together. Then because I had about a 1/4 of a jar of pasta sauce, I tossed that in too. I mixed it all up and then let it sit for a few minutes.

And that was it! I sprinkled some parmesan cheese on top and we were good to go! I even had enough left over to take for lunch the next day! I actually ate the left overs cold and it was still pretty tasty

If you have any recipes you use with things lying around the kitchen we would love to hear!

Farm Fresh to You

I am signed up for an amazing service called Farm Fresh To You! Farm Fresh is Community Supported Agriculture, fresh fruits and vegetables are picked from local farms and delivered to your door step!

You will never get bored of your delivery, the fruits and vegetables change weekly as well as seasonally. Often you will get something new you have never tried! Its a great opportunity to expand you horizons and also a great chance to try new recipes.

When I prepare the box, Its usually at about 5:30 in the morning. I don't always have time to finish everything. I always save my vegetable clippings to make a veggie stock. I learned the hard way that you need to claim your stock! Don't make my mistake, just leave a friendly note.
I try to prepare the products right away and usually have my meals set for a at least a week. I do this so I know what I have, I can make a plan for recipes and nothing gets shoved to the back of the fridge to be discovered covered in mold. I highly recommend making a vegetable stock out of the vegetable scraps.

Depending on what is in your box, your stock with vary a bit. I recently switched from fruits and veggies to just vegetables.  Here are a few of the items in the box this morning. Look at that lettuce, its bigger than my whole head (just ignore the bed head and yesterday's makeup). I got a crazy mushroom I've never used before! That will be fun, Its a Maitake Mushroom!
Here what you can do when making your stock...

1. Fill your biggest pot with water and put it on high heat.
2. Cut the ends or leaves off of the vegetables you want to prepare. Veggies like onions, carrots, celery are best for the stock. I have put in leeks, garlic, fennel, chard, potatoes, bean pods, zucchini, mushrooms, asparagus, corn husk, or squash skin.
3. Throw what you have into the pot and add spices. I like to throw in thyme, basil, parsley, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and whatever else sounds good to grab from the spice rack.
4. Let it boil then simmer for about an hour. From what I have read, veggie stock is different than a chicken stock because the time it boils or simmers doesn't need to be super long to get more flavor out.
5. When you are all done strain out the veggies (your should put them in a compost!) Put the stock in whatever you plan to store it in. (I hear mason jars are pretty popular these days)

* try to avoid veggies that will make a bitter stock or overpower the stock. I usually avoid cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and turnips. And obviously nothing that is moldy or rotten.

Now you have vegetable stock ready for any soup your heart desires! Plus there is a good chance you have a lot of other great vegetables that would make your soup even more delicious.

Also, Check out the Farm Fresh website! If you are not in southern California there is most likely something similar near you as well! Just get Googling!

Francesca's

If you are like us you love new clothes, but don't love going broke.

Well we have good news! We gave a bit of a taste in last week's Memorial Day post. Now, here is the real thing!

Francesca's is a store you can find locally throughout California, all across the US, and online! They always have great pieces for reasonable prices. Some things may be a bit more pricy, but they have sales ALL THE TIME!  **used to be Franchesca's Collection, but I think they have shortened their name, you know like Brittany did.

Recently, while out and about we stopped in and couldn't help racking up the credit card a bit.  While in the store they had a buy one get one 50% of any regular priced clothing, jewelry, bags and accessories! (They have this sale a lot but when you are in the store, you just cant pass it up!)

I got these cute polka dot shorts,

This amazing cross body bag,

And this fun necklace (also got it in lavender)!

I tried on  a few other things while at the store that I decided to put back to save money. Well, two days later I got an e-mail about the same sale on the website. So, I ordered two skirts! Here they are!

I already wore the blue and gold one out and everyone loved it! I plan to rock the striped one soon!

Also, as I mentioned they always have great sales, so here are some of the things on our wish list!

Obsessed with this Queenstown Chambray Romper!

How perfect is Anne's Grove Gardens Blouse for work or a casual lunch out!

This Teardrop Necklace in Blue would look awesome with a plain tank or a solid strapless dress!

And just because, Check out the California State Pendant Necklace!

Wine and Canvas

Our "bachelorette" group was in major need of a girls night out. So, we headed to Wine and Canvas to get our paint on. The concept of Wine and Canvas is awesome - paint while you drink! Every weekend, there are different paintings you can choose from, and the paintings are broken down by a teacher during the class. So, it is possible for everyone to come out with something decent - no matter what your skill level!

Everyone starts out with a blank canvas and there is a "teacher" who walks you through step by step to re-create the piece.

At first, it looks weird and it feels like your painting will look nothing like the original. It seems to start so simple, we started with a moon and most of our circles looked like purple lemons.

Bailey turned her 'moon' into a smiley face.

Look at everyone hard at work! We were in the back being loud and having a bit more fun. Hey, they served us wine, so we assumed that meant loosen up!

Our final product!

Where'd that smiley face go??

My tree is a little fat, but not terrible right?

We are practically professional Artists by now! Wanna buy a painting of  a tree in front of the moon? We have about 6 ;)

Wine and painting has become pretty popular, so even if you are not in LA, there is probably one near you! It was so much fun, and a great idea for date night or girls night.

Check out Wine and Canvas and pick your painting!
