Book Club - The Fault in our Stars Review

The day has finally arrived! Book club meeting number two! Since we both finished the book in a few days, we had quite a long time to wait before we could discuss it over yummy snacks. So, when the day came we were pumped! As a result of our excitement, we forgot to take pictures of all of our yummy snacks until the very end! oops!  But, you'll get the picture! Also, *Spoiler Alert* if you have not read the book yet, there might be some spoilers!

Our Menu:
Strawberry Quinoa Spinach Salad (Recipe here)
Sun Dried Tomato and Goat Cheese Salad
Vegan Fudge (Recipe here)
Fresh Veggies
Gluten free crackers and cheese

Here is the rest of the Strawberry Quinoa Spinach Salad

The ridiculously good vegan fudge! We ate everything because its actually not even bad for you!

Our Topic:
Well we were there to discuss The Fault in Our Stars.  Everyone really loved the book, so it was pretty easy to talk about. We used some discussion questions found on the internet, thoughts and questions that popped into our minds while reading and then whatever popped up during the chat!

We all loved the main characters and even though cancer was what made this story more than just two high-school kids falling in love, it still wasn't a book about cancer. We loved the sense of humor both Hazel and Gus were able to maintain throughout the book.

Some people have had a problem with the author writing in the voice of a teenage girl. Umm, who cares, who reads a book imagining the author talking? This was not an issue to us at all!

We had some questions about Peter Van Houten, he was definitely an odd one, but we didn't hate his character, we actually kinda felt bad for him. We then came to the questions of do authors actually know what happens to their characters? We thought that if someone were to spend that much time on a book, you would think that in their mind they would at least have to have an idea of what happens after the book ends. None of us have ever written a book, but if you have, we would love to hear!

Also, I kinda wanna turn the tables on John Green and ask him what happens with Hazel!

OK, Thats most of what we talked about, I won't bore you with our super nerdy, deep discussions about  Maslow's hierarchy of needs and how books have touched  us in the past... you will fall asleep and the most exciting part of this post is next!

Our New Pick:

Bailey's turn to pick this time! We chose between Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler, The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan and The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty

When it came time to vote, all hands shot up at the chance to read....

Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald

We are so excited to read this! Has anyone else read this yet? The reviews are looking great! Can't wait to add our own review!

Sara Gruen, who wrote Water For Elephants reviewed the book saying, "An utterly engrossing Portrayal of Zelda Fitzgerald and the legendary circles in which she moved. In the Spirit of Loving Frank and the Paris Wife, Therese Anne Fowler shines a light on Zelda instead of her more famous husband, providing both justice and the voice she struggled to have heard in her lifetime. "
