Pop Physique

Recently, I purchased a Groupon for a new workout near me called Pop Physique. The workout is excellent, and combines Pilates, ballet, and light weight workouts that make a series of strengthening, isometrics, core shaping, and stretches. It is truly unique and a must try. They have locations all over California, and recently opened studios in Florida and Baltimore. I know it's a matter of time before they hit other areas.

I bought a Groupon for 5 classes at $30, so keep an eye out for another Groupon or Living Social deal! I know one will be coming.

Normally, their classes are $20 per class, but they have a new client special for $100 unlimited for a month. They recently ran a special for 5 classes for $45 (which I just bought!). So if you get a chance to try their classes, be sure to give them your email.

Also, they have DVD's!! Three DVD's, which multiple instructors at Pop have told me are really great. If you don't live in the LA area, this would be a great option for you!

I highly recommend checking out Groupon or Living Social for workout deals near you. I use them all the time, and it provides an incredibly affordable way to try new work outs. Plus, you never get bored!

Spool No. 72

I am always on the lookout for undiscovered brands, and Spool No. 72 is one of my recent obsessions. The company is family owned, and every piece of clothing is one of a kind. Additionally, items are very affordable, which makes me love them even more. Nothing they create is mass produced, so sizes/items sell out quickly, but they restock frequently! Here are some of my current fav's and be sure to check out their website at www.spool72.com

Quinoa Salad

I am always on the hunt for new gluten-free vegetarian recipes (yes, I am a vegetarian and GF). The recipe for this quinoa salad is literally my "go-to" on a weekly basis. It is incredibly affordable, delicious, and can be modified to your liking. Sometimes I put the salad over a bed of lettuce, in a wrap with some salsa and guacamole, or just eat it by itself. If my boyfriend isn't consuming the entire bowl, this usually lasts me about 8-10 meals, and is made for under $10.

Like I said, this can be modified to anyone's liking, depending on what veggies you have on hand, or what you like. You could also substitute the salsa with ginger dressing or soy sauce, the black beans for edamame, and create more of an asian inspired salad. Whatever your heart desires.

3 cups cooked quinoa (I love the tricolor kind, but any kind works!)
1 can of black beans, rinsed and drained
1 diced avocado
1/2 cup salsa (or more, depending on your taste buds. I use pico de gallo from trader joe's)
2 diced bell peppers (I prefer yellow or orange)
salt and pepper to taste
*optional, 1/4 cup diced onion

This is also a recipe that portions of each ingredient can be estimated, or modified to your liking. I really love bell peppers, so I put extra!

Enjoy!

The inspiration behind "Fido" - Harley and Coco

Meet Harley and Coco

About Harley:  My boyfriend and I adopted Miss Harley Quinn in February of 2012! She was about 10 weeks old at the time and the original plan was to foster her until we found her a forever home. Well that lasted about 2 days because we fell in love and had to have her forever! We got her from an amazing pit bull rescue called Bullies and Buddies. If you are looking to get a dog, they are amazing! Harley is a pit bull mix of some sort, we are guessing mostly american bull dog. Harley is the sweetest dog you will meet, and when meeting her you will automatically start to smile. Her smile is pretty contagious! Harley is also a registered service dog and therapy dog! She is hilarious, lazy and lovable!

Harley Quinn when she was itty bitty!

Harley being Fancy!

Harley Loves photo shoots!

About Coco: I adopted Coco almost seven years ago in Atlanta, Georgia, when she was eight weeks old. She is full boxer, and reminds me of a human more often than a dog, and has the most hilarious personality. She makes me laugh on a daily basis, and is truly the love of my life and my best friend. Coco's favorite things to do are hike, swim, cuddle, bark at the mailman, and play with her best friends Harley, Fievel, and Clyde.

Hollywood Half Marathon (with 10K/5K option)

Last year I did Run For Your Lives! A zombie infested 5k obstacle course. I had never had so much fun but decided that I needed to be in better shape for the next one!
FYI:  Zombie Apocalypse RULE # 1: CARDIO

The plan to stay in shape and prepare... Run at least one 5k a month in 2013.

So far the group of us who have committed to the cause have done pretty good keeping to the plan. We even went over an above and did our very first 10k!  For a second we considered the half marathon but figured baby steps would be a good idea. And thank god! We were not prepared, we didn't train, and tater-tots were the main course of our pre-race dinner. We also forgot the part where you need safety pins to put your bib on... We were tired...

The race started at 6:00am in Hollywood! That meant we needed to be there around 5:30! That meant we needed to leave home by 5:15! That meant we had to wake up at 4:30! (WHAT THE HELL WERE WE THINKING... is what we were thinking during all of this)

But we pushed through we jumped in the line and we started to run (jog, it was more of a jog). The first  mile was cake, mile two was a little rough but when we passed mile 3 we knew we had made it half way! For some reason the rest of it just happened and we weren't tired.

Most of the races we do are fun runs with themes. This is the first time there has been an exciting finish line. As soon as we turned the corner and saw the finish line, people lining the streets were cheering and something happened. Our legs started moving on their own. Seriously, they just started going and all I could imagine was the cartoon legs that bring up dust and spin leaving skid marks! It was pretty awesome, I highly recommend doing a race just for that feeling. I think thats where the "runners high" comes from because you finish and can't quite understand what just happened.

We finished in 1 hour 14 minutes, which isn't awesome, but we had a bathroom break for the small bladder of the group and took our time. We also were not competitive about it. But next time, watch out  because it's serious now!

Here's a before and after shot! Our goal was to survive it, which we did and then some! It's pretty awesome the things you can accomplish when you take the first step to just try it.

Now we are looking for another run... any suggestions??

Sign up for next year's hollywood half marathon!

Bachelorette Weekend #3

Before any of the girl screams of excitement commence...

This is a FAKE Bachelorette Weekend.

A few of us have realized the best way to save some money and enjoy a much needed weekend away with the girls is...Pretend one of us is getting married! Sounds silly right, well it is. It's flat out ridiculous, but it's fun.

This is the story of Bachelorette Weekend #3.

Step one: Group Facebook/Text message from one of us stating a need to get away!
Step two: Find a reasonably priced house/apartment to rent and determine our means of transportation!
Step three: Determine Bride, and roles of each bachelorette.
Step four: GO!!!

Yup, it is as simple as that!

We try to always rent a house because after many calculations, we realized it would save us more than if we stayed in a hotel. PLUS, it allows us to buy groceries and eat in for most meals. This is where we stayed in San Diego.  We ended up finding this place on VRBO. It slept 6 of us, some more comfortably than others and it only had one bathroom, but we made it work!
We sometimes like to take a train to our destinations, however this weekend happened to be a spring break weekend so prices were a bit high. So, we drove. As soon as we got in and settled we took a quick run over to Trader Joe's to get food for the weekend. With plenty left over after the trip we spent only $30/person on food and drinks in the house.

Now, the really fun part!

Stay tuned for night one's shenanigans! (BTW I spelled shenanigans right on the first try!)

We are Starting a Book Club!

We are starting a book club!

Some people may roll their eyes and say, "A book club? More like a lame club."  But we are not friends with those people.

I know I'm a book worm and have been since I was a kid. When I joined my first book club, I couldn't believe my luck! I got to read books, and then talk about them and share my  opinion with people who were there to do the same thing! I loved it. Its the worst when you read a great book and you want to tell everyone about it or talk about  what your favorite character did and nobody is interested.

I remember as a kid, telling my mom every little detail about a book I read and what I thought about each character and how it ended all while she was trying to make dinner and nodding her head with a few Oh wows and uh huhs.
Nope, not anymore now with a book club there is much more of a discussion.
This new book club has not yet started but in preparation we have  turned to goodreads.com Go Check it out !

I'm in love with the app. You can scan all of your old books into your "read" shelf and load up your "to read" shelf so you can keep track of all the books that catch your eye.

Anyway... We will be selecting our first book very soon!

Stay tunes and maybe read along with us!
